Australian Law Might Be Antisemitic.There has been recent controversy over the discovery that Australian Member of Parliament Matt Canavan MP holds dual citizenship, which precludes him from being an MP.

Investigations into this old law could very well open a much larger can of worms...

The right to hold political office may be prohibited for immigrants and even their offspring, even if they are Australian citizens, if they are merely eligible for citizenship in a foreign country.

Under section 44i of our constitution, not only is a dual citizen prohibited from holding political office, but any person who "Is under any acknowledgment of allegiance, obedience, or adherence to a foreign power, or is a subject or a citizen [of a foreign power]."

I might be exclude from the right to hold public office because although I'm Australian born; as a child of Greek citizens I am entitled to Greek citizenship; because Greece holds an "allegiance" to me, even "if" I don't feel the same way.

Even though I am not presently

"entitled to the rights or privileges of a subject or a citizen of a foreign power.";

all it would take is a demand of the right of citizenship by me to Greece.

My Kids, however, are not entitled to Greek citizenship, unless I first become a citizen; so my acquiring Greek citizenship might preclude another generation of my family from entering politics...

However, if your family is Jewish; then it may be the case that none of your descendants will ever have the right to hold public office, as Israel's "allegiance" to all Jews is such that they all have the right to citizenship...

This law appears to have the potential for permanent hereditary implications for those [Jews, their children and grandchildren and spouses] with "allegiance" to Israel; a potential which does not apply to those with a heritage of allegiance to any other nation; because under Israeli Law:

“ The rights of a Jew under this law, and the rights of an Ole under the Citizenship Law -1952, and the rights of a Ole under any other law, are given to the child or grandchild of a Jew, the spouse of a Jew the spouse of a child and grandchild of a Jew; Except a person who was born Jewish and out of his free will converted his religion.”

This recent controversy is not necessarily simply about Matt Canavan MP’s dual citizenship; it's about "entitlement" to citizenship by descent; which the high court has never ruled on...

As a self identifying Greek, "claiming" first loyalties to Australia...

Draconian as it may seem.... At first glance... I can see positive national interest for Australia in tightening these loopholes around QUESTIONABLE allegiances.
Will anyone dare challenge to the High Court????

Jewish groups will be allarmed over this if it gets traction..

In what is official said to be the first military raid carried out in Yemen under President Donald Trump, SEAL Team 6 killed the 8 year old (American) daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki. He was a New Mexico-born alleged al Qaeda leader who himself was killed in a U.S. strike five years ago with Anwar's 16 year old younger brother killed by a USA drone strike 2 weeks later.

Pentagon alleges that 14 militants died, along with "numerous" civilians.
Various reports from Yemen claim that as many as 59 people killed in total.
Other reports claim 10 women and other children apart from Nawar were killed, and others wounded.

As usual, our rightist friends, devoid of humanity and integrity, will make any unsubstantiated claim conceivable to demonise "the other" in order to make the killings more palatable; even sometimes claiming that Muslims merely use their children as a human shield...
But if we just stick to the facts.
The fact is that USA authorities admit to having killed innocents.
The fact is, that this was the fist official hit on people on foreign soil with Trump as USA President showing us his style. The attack was directed by the man Trump appointed as secretary of defense General James "Mad Dog" Mattis.
Mad Dog Mattis; the man who once authorised the bombing of a wedding party near the Syrian border, killing 42 civilians, including at least 13 children; and later boasted to military historian Bing West that it had taken him less than 30 seconds to deliberate whether to bomb the location.

So many wars and death in the Middle East, based on erroneous claims by American and allied leaders, perhaps millions; while under international scrutiny of so called evidence; Now it will be a free[r] for all; without any oversight at all.
Let's not pretend; the fact is; that Trump has no qualms with killing innocent people; in fact, he has even promised to target them.
